Cassia has always trusted the Society to make the right choices for her: what to read, what to watch, what to believe. So when Xander's face appears on-screen at her Matching ceremony, Cassia knows with complete certainty that he is her ideal mate... until she sees Ky Markham's face flash for an instant before the screen fades to black.
The Society tells her it's a glitch, a rare malfunction, and that she should focus on the happy life she's destined to lead with Xander. But Cassia can't stop thinking about Ky, and as they slowly fall in love, Cassia begins to doubt the Society's infallibility and is faced with an impossible choice: between Xander and Ky, between the only life she's known and a path that no one else has dared to follow.
Review: Sensitive, thought-provoking, romantic and incredibly sweet- there has got to be a million reasons why I love this book and I am so glad that I found it!
I have to admit that book begins slow and it wasn't very action-packed, in the sense that there wasn't any dramatic car chases and fight scenes, but there was a lot more subtle action then that. I really enjoyed the fact that Matched didn't feel like it had to do that to hold our attention, because we were being driven by something else and that something is called Cassia.
I loved Cassia's character! I thought she was the perfect blend of inconstant, curious, rebellious, perfect but with a whole load of contradiction- basically a teenager! I thought it was a shame that we didn't get to see much of the main two male leads, Xander and Ky, who both have piqued my curiosity but hopefully we will get to see more of them later.
Although there was romance, I liked the fact that it didn't overshadow the more pressing questions about there society and everything wrong with it. So if you are looking for an intelligent, great YA book, I definitely recommend reading this.
Overall, I think this is going to be one-hell of a trilogy and I am already off to go get the next book and have the last pre-ordered! It is that good! Hopefully the next two will live up to my expectations- read the reviews and find out. If you have read it, tell me what you thought about it and if you haven't, tell me if I have convinced you?
